Can I Wear Makeup After a Face Peel?
Unfortunately, it is not advisable to wear makeup immediately after a face peel. Depending on the strength of the peel you get, it can take two to three days for your skin to start peeling. After that, your skin can take two to five days to finish peeling. Therefore, you may have to wait between four and eight days before you can apply any cosmetics.
There are several reasons why you should avoid applying makeup after a facial peel. First, makeup can irritate your fresh skin, even if it doesn’t cause you any problems normally. Second, your makeup may not be sterile. Avoiding makeup mitigates your risk of infection. Finally, makeup often requires aggressive scrubbing to remove, and you should treat your face gently after a peel.
How Should I Sleep After a Peel?
Do your best to sleep on your back after your facial peel. If you sleep on your side or stomach, your head will put too much pressure on your fresh facial skin. You should also make an effort to keep your head elevated when you sleep. If you tend to roll over in your sleep, sleep in a recliner, if possible.
Sleeping in a recliner doesn’t just prevent you from rolling over in your sleep accidentally. It has the added benefit of keeping your head elevated throughout the night. If you don’t have a recliner, elevate your head with two to three pillows depending on the thickness of your pillows. If you don’t have an extra pillow, put a folded towel or two under your pillow.
Can I Moisturize After a Peel?
Yes, you may moisturize after a face peel. However, there are a couple of crucial things you must keep in mind. First, the moisturizer must be gentle on your skin. We strongly recommend Aquaphor or Vaseline. Both of these moisturizers are hypoallergenic and gentle on all types of skin.
Second, it is very important that you do not over-moisturize your skin. If you have oily or normal skin, you should only moisturize your skin once daily. If you have dry skin, moisturizing your skin twice daily is okay.
Can I Bathe After a Peel?
Depending on the strength of the facial peel you receive, you should avoid wetting your skin for 12 to 24 hours after treatment. This means you can take a cold or cool bath if you take care to keep your skin dry. However, you should avoid taking a shower. During your initial consultation, we will advise you regarding how long you should keep your face dry after your peel.
Once it is okay for you to bathe, make sure you gently wash your face with a gentle facial cleanser. Do not use body soap on your face as the pH is much higher and not ideal for your fresh facial skin. When it is time for you to dry your face, pat it dry gently with a soft towel. Do not aggressively rub your skin dry with a scratchy towel.
Can I Take a Hot Bath After a Peel?
In the first several days after your peel, it is very important that you avoid excessive heat. This means you may not take a steaming hot bath. You should also avoid other sources of excessive heat and activities that can cause elevated blood pressure and sweating.
For instance, you should not relax in a steam room or dry sauna. You should avoid strenuous exercise in the days following your treatment such as exercises elevate your blood pressure and cause you to sweat. Finally, you should avoid alcohol, nicotine, excess caffeine, excess sodium, and spicy foods. All of these can elevate your blood pressure.
Can I Sunbathe After a Peel if It’s Not Hot Outside?
In the first two to four weeks after your peel, your fresh facial skin is very vulnerable to the sun’s damaging UV rays. As a result, you should protect your skin from UV rays as much as possible. This means that you should not sunbathe. In fact, you should minimize your time outside between the hours of 10 AM and 4 PM when the UV rays are strongest.
If you must go outside between these hours, make sure you are wearing at least a broad-spectrum SPF 30 sunscreen. If you have little melanin in your skin, wear at least a broad-spectrum SPF 55 sunscreen. Reapply every four hours and make sure you read the bottle to see if you need to reapply if you sweat.
