They are administered using a very fine needle and are relatively painless; the equipment is similar that used by diabetics to inject insulin. We will teach you how to prepare and administer them and instruct you in techniques to minimize any discomfort – it will be less painful than a mosquito bite.
- What do I need to do to start on HCG diet shots?
Before you start the diet, we request blood tests and perform a general health assessment. For individual injections, generally no preparations are required.
- Is it healthy to lose up to a pound a day with HCG shots?
Studies have shown that weight lost following this diet protocol comes directly from adipose fat tissue rather than lean muscle. The diet does not strip the body of muscle fiber or deplete your organs of essential fats, vitamins or minerals. Nutrients stored in the fat are released back into the blood stream as it is burned off, so HCG dieters often report a feeling of improved health, and little or no hunger during the diet.
- Won’t I be miserable on just 500 calories a day?
The limited fuel intake is necessary to prevent your body from converting any excess calories into fat. Although you are eating only 500 calories, your body is releasing stored excess fat, so you’re actually burning your customary thousands of calories a day. It is common for mild hunger to occur during the first few days, but by the second week you should find even tiny servings completely satisfying. This is partly because your hypothalamus has adjusted your metabolic rate, but is mostly due to the amount of calories circulating in your system from the fat being “released”.
- How do I take the HCG diet shots?
HCG shots are taken at the same time every day, generally in the morning. Because of their relatively low HCG concentrations, side effects are rarely reported. Some people may experience headaches for the first few days as the body readjusts to its reduced fuel intake, but they usually go away in a day or two. They can also be minimized by staying well hydrated and taking Tylenol (acetaminophen) if needed. Some women on the HCG diet may experience a fluctuation in their menstrual cycles affecting timing, flow or cramping. Many of these changes can be avoided by starting the HCG diet after the last day of your period.

The majority of men and women can use HCG injections for weight loss, but if you are pregnant or nursing you are not an acceptable candidate.
- Is HCG hormone safe for men?
Yes. HCG is naturally present (in varying levels) in both men and women – it’s only during pregnancy that the amount in women dramatically increases.
- Will I gain the weight back after I stop taking the HCG shots?
After the HCG diet, you should find your appetite and eating behavior will have modified; your metabolism will be different and you will be able to eat moderately without feeling the need to overeat. However, it is essential to adopt a healthier lifestyle to maintain weight loss, including exercising and eating at the “reset” calorie level. If you go back to old habits of leading a sedentary lifestyle and either overeating or eating unhealthy foods, the weight will return. - How long does each cycle last? Can I do more than one?
The HCG diet is recommended in 21 or 40 day cycles, with varying breaks in between. By doing more than one cycle, significant additional weight can be lost.
- How do food and HCG work during the diet?
During the first two “loading days” you will eat what you normally do now, as this allows HCG to start taking effect. After that you are on the strict 500-calorie/day diet. You will also follow it for three days after the 21- or 40-day intensive low calorie protocol is finished, to allow the HCG to leave your system. After that, we will provide you with a phased program to gradually ease into a higher calorie diet.
- Are HCG injections for weight loss legal?
While HCG is not FDA approved for dietary use, a medical doctor is legally able to prescribe HCG for this off-label purpose.
